Insurance Questions, Answered Plainly

A few of the questions we hear most often. Don’t see yours? Call us anytime during business hours.

Why work with an independent agent?

Instead of selling one company’s policies, we’re appointed with many. That means more choices, honest comparisons, and an advocate who works for you rather than for the insurer.

What is a deductible?

Your deductible is the amount you pay toward a covered claim before the insurance company pays the rest. Choosing a higher deductible usually lowers your premium.

Who do I call when I have a claim?

Call us first whenever you can, so we can guide you through the process. After hours, contact your insurance company’s claims line directly. You’ll find links on our Payments & Claims page.

What’s the difference between comprehensive and collision?

Collision pays to repair your own car after it hits another vehicle or object. Comprehensive covers most other damage, such as hitting a deer, hail, a cracked windshield, fire, or theft.

What if an uninsured driver hits me?

Uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage helps pay for your injuries, and in some cases vehicle damage, when the at-fault driver has little or no insurance. We include it on our auto quotes unless you ask us to remove it.

How can I lower my insurance costs?

Ask us to review your discounts. Combining policies with one company, choosing a deductible that suits your budget, and enrolling in safe-driving programs can all reduce what you pay. If your rate climbs, we can compare other companies for you.

What is umbrella insurance?

A personal umbrella adds an extra layer of liability protection, often $1 million or more, above your home and auto policies. It helps protect your savings and future income from a large lawsuit.

What does liability coverage do?

Liability coverage pays for injuries or property damage you are legally responsible for causing to others, including legal defense costs, up to your policy limits.

Does my home policy cover my belongings?

Yes. The personal property portion of a homeowners or renters policy helps repair or replace furniture, clothing, electronics, and other belongings after a covered loss. Jewelry and collectibles may need added coverage.

What is a certificate of insurance?

A certificate of insurance is a one-page summary that proves a business carries certain coverage. Customers, landlords, and general contractors often request one, and we can issue it for you.
